Description

Historical Note

Founded as Suffolk Union Congregational in 1845; Shawmut incorporated in 1897; merged with Park Street Church in 1954. William C. Foster, minister 1849-1851, was leaving Shawmut Church for lack of financial support; subscription list was part of a fundraising effort.

Scope of Collection

The collection is primarily material related to a survey about the Shawmut Church and its environs and was completed in 1917. There is also correspondence from D. Melancthon James. The earliest record is a stand-alone subscription list. Persons on that list include William C. Foster, minister from 1849-1851.
