About Biblical Church Governance: Biblical Principles for Being and Leading Local Churches

There are basic biblical principles for local churches across all times and cultures. Stephen Gammon has studied this guidance over nearly five decades of ministry—as a pastor’s son and grandson, overseer of churches, denominational leader, military chaplain among diverse faiths, and through interdenominational ties regionally, nationally, and internationally. His experiences show that applying biblical governance principles yields positive results, while ignoring them brings hard consequences.

This book summarizes key principles for being and leading local churches, including biblical “photos” of how Jesus views His Church—like the architect’s blueprints for building it. Churches thrive when concepts of Headship, Leadership, and Membership are understood and applied. It also covers historic faith convictions in biblical governance, with some cautions for leaders. Each section includes questions for personal reflection or group discussion.

Drawing from congregational ministry and affiliations within the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC) in the USA and internationally in the World Evangelical Congregational Fellowship (WECF), Gammon has also added an addendum on Practicing Biblical Congregationalism.
